The Saturday "Salamanca Market" at Salamanca Place
Salamanca Place, in Hobart (the charming capital city of Tasmania, Australia), is BUSTLING on a beautiful Saturday morning in December!
Every Saturday, along the waterfront, this community comes alive for the Saturday "Salamanca Market" - a coming-together of diverse food producers and food vendors, musicians and artisans of all types![Ii] An extensive outdoor market, there is something for everyone!
A highly-picturesque market, the vendors are set up against a historic backdrop - Georgian sandstone buildings.[ii] These sandstone buildings are a cultural hub - housing a variety of amenities, including restaurants, bars, cafes, craft shops and galleries![iii]
I love historic "Old Town" areas when traveling; I always seek them out! To feel like you're stepping back in time, whilst taking in the culture, sights, sounds, tastes and smells of a new place, is always memorable! I particularly enjoy exploring the local, vibrant produce, especially at a time of year when back at home, fresh and local produce is at its most limited supply!
To see fresh, local products that you don't find at home is especially exciting! Fresh eucalyptus products, given how prevalent Eucalyptus (Gum) Trees are in Australia, is truly unique!
This market is open every Saturday, rain or shine, from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.[iv] A MUST-SEE if ever in Hobart, Tasmania!
