Fermented Vegan Proteins+

September 20, 2017

Protein powders.  With all of the options on the market, narrowing down a suitable one that pleases the eye, your taste buds and your dietary needs can be a challenge!

I do enjoy a good protein powder in my morning smoothie; I also rotate use of a protein powder with hemp seeds and ground flax, so as to allow these plant-based protein sources to compliment one another as part of my daily diet.

So, today I share with you one of my favourite plant-based protein powders, particularly because it is fermented, and I am a lover of all things fermented!  Fermented protein offers a rich source of probiotic bacteria for the gut, supporting the Immune System and digestion.

It is Genuine Health fermented vegan proteins+ (advanced digestive support).

According to Genuine Health, 7 different plant-based proteins and 20 g of fermented dietary protein comprise each serving.  The fermentation process helps support digestion and enhance nutrient absorption, minimizing any bloating following and contributing to weight management.  Due to the fact that the protein is pre-digested, being fermented, it is ready for your body to effectively use.[i]

The 7 plant-based proteins include:

  • Yellow pea kernel protein concentrate

  • Brown rice seed protein concentrate

  • Organic hemp seed protein

  • Organic quinoa sprouts

  • Alfalfa juice protein concentrate

  • Organic spirulina

  • Mung bean sprouts

Non-Medicinal Ingredients include:

  • Vanilla flavour blend

  • Organic stevia leaf extract

  • Xanthan gum

  • Lo Han Guo (monk fruit) extract

Nutritional Information:

As seen below, 1 serving contains a good dose of both calcium and iron, and no trans fat, cholesterol or sugar.

Amino Acid Profile:

Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein chains in the body.  This product's amino acid profile appears below.  The profile includes some of all Essential Amino Acids; essential amino acids are amino acids your body must acquire through your daily diet, as they are unable to be manufactured by the body.

This vegan product is free of:

*For an in-depth low-down on protein powders, Canadian Clinical Nutritionist and Functional Medicine Specialist Josh Gitalis provides a thorough explanation of various protein powder sources in Your Definitive Guide to Protein Powders (wherein this Genuine Health fermented vegan proteins+  is featured).

*As Josh importantly states, it is important to switch things up with your protein powders, in the same way you would switch up the types of foods you consume on a regular basis.  Eating the same thing, day in and day out, without rotation to other varieties, can increase the likelihood of developing a sensitivity to a food.  Due to the fact that each protein powder amino acid profile and protein source profile is different, rotating amongst a few protein powders that you’ve come to like is a very good idea; they compliment one another in various ways!
