Genetic Roulette: The Documented Health Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods

This eye-opening documentary reinforces the gamble we take with our health as consumers of the controversial food industry and its methods of production that exist today.  “Americans get sick more often than those in other industrialized countries.  Epidemics today were not epidemics prior, and are at a monumental level”.[i]

 

This documentary also addresses the process of taking genes from one species and forcing it into the genetic DNA of another species, yielding Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).  Such genetic engineering produces unknown side effects, and no studies have been conducted over a long enough period of time to know the full scope of the effects on the body.[ii]  The trial periods for those studies that do exist are so short, that side-effects can’t even be determined.

 

At the heart of many illnesses is inflammation in the gut.  Foods in our industry are proving to contain increased levels of known, naturally-occurring toxicants, as well as new, not-previously-identified toxicants.[iii]  Genetic modification involves “manipulating the entire structure/genetic integrity of evolution”, and as such, is leading to consequences including infertility, immune system disregulation, accelerated aging and changes in the liver, kidney, spleen and gastrointestinal tract.[iv]

 

Years ago, no one was allergic to anything, which says a lot about the evolution of the food industry and agricultural methods since them.  With the bulk of American livestock consuming Roundup Ready crops (i.e. cottonseed, corn and alfalfa - highly toxic to the body), it is no surprise.  This is a corrupt system; cheap prices for the consumer at the vast expense of the environment, including the lives of the animals feeding off these crops to produce the foods we take from them, not to mention the cost of bodily inflammation and disease that results in both the short-term and long-term.

 

One of the quotes that greatly resounded with me was: “By what you spend today, you control what is produced tomorrow”.[v]  Absolutely.  Consumers ultimately have great power to create a paradigm shift, but this is unable to happen with consumer education first.
