Beet Blast!

A beet juice concoction is a blast of energy that will provide you that refreshing, slightly spicy, pick-me-up...any time of day that you're really needing one!  Trust me on this one!  And, with spring upon us, who can resist THAT COLOUR!  Wowza!

 

Key Nutrients:

 

Beets - contain phytonutrients (plant nutrients) called “Betalains”, that are highly concentrated both within the skin and flesh of this vegetable

 

  • Betalains possess anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and detoxification properties and fiber-related benefits; also high in folate and manganese[i]

 

Carrots – possess beta-carotene, helping to combat health-damaging, free radical activity (free radicals are uncharged atoms in the body that result from stressors, and can be highly reactive within the body)[ii]

 

Apples – are cancer-fighting fruits and can help combat diarrhea and constipation (their fiber can either pull water out of your colon to keep things moving along when you’re backed up, or can absorb excess water from your stool to slow your bowels down)[iii]

 

Ginger – possesses anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting properties, soothes and relaxes the digestive tract, effective in eliminating intestinal gas, reduces all symptoms associated with motion sickness[iv]

 

Lemon - detoxifies the body, activates metabolism, boosts the immune system, neutralizes the body’s pH by restoring its alkalinity (undesirable bacteria thrive in more acidic environments)

 

Why Juice?

 

Juicing is a fantastic way to make a nutrient-dense beverage in just minutes!  Juicing, unlike blending ingredients together, extracts the fiber, making the invaluable nutrients more bio-available (more readily and easily able to absorb) for the body.  In this state, the nutrients the juice contains are absorbed into the bloodstream within seconds.  For those who need to be careful about their fiber intake, there is no need to be concerned about fiber in this circumstance.

 

*Note:  It is more preferable to juice organic produce.  When juicing conventional produce, you are creating a very concentrated form of any and all pesticides the produce contains.

 

Ingredients (makes approx. 1.5 cups/1 substantial serving or 2 smaller servings):

 

4 small beets

 

6 small carrots

 

2 small apples

 

1” piece of ginger (vary depending on how spicy you like your juice!)

 

1/2 lemon

 

Preparation:

 

Wash all produce well and chop into pieces of appropriate size for the juicer at hand.

Juice ingredients, stir and enjoy!
