Tasmania Hiking Love! (Pt. I)

Iconic Cradle Mountain!

Just in case Tasmania isn't enough of an escape for you (it is!), if you're a mountain-lover and hiking-lover, then Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park is your destination!

Composing a part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, this national park is deemed to be one of Tasmania's most precious places, "where ancient pines fringe glacial lakes and icy streams cascade down rugged mountains."[i]

You have a few different hiking options available to you!

The Dove Lake Circuit is a beautiful path along the perimeter of the lake; a lake carved by a glacier! It is marked as a 2-3 hour hike and is 6 km long; we completed it in 2 hours as a brisk walk, which can certainly get your heart pumping, with the periodic hills and staircases to climb!

Alternatively, for the more strenuous hike-seekers, the Cradle Mountain Summit is approximately an 8-hour hike and close to 13 km long!

A very leisurely alternative in another part of the park, near the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre, is the Enchanted Nature Walk - a 1.1 km loop that takes about 20 minutes to complete (see images below); this walk will take you on a scenic route along "a cascading river, wombat burrows and magical, old-growth rainforest"[ii]

Regardless of the route chosen, the scenery will not disappoint! And, be prepared for several wildlife sitings! Our included numerous wombats and wallabies! It was pretty amazing!

The Dove Lake Circuit is boardwalk for a large portion of the path!

Don't be surprised if a wombat walks alongside you!

We had a furry friend join us for a little bit!
